She uses innovative fluorescence microscopy methods, including super-resolution and simultaneous multi-plane imaging, to investigate how viruses, such as HIV-1, infect cells.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, she was selected to be a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.unchealthcare.org\/2019\/03\/itano-earns-czi-grant-to-support-imaging-scientists\/\">CZI Imaging Scientist<\/a>. She is also very invested in facilitating collaborations between researchers, software and infrastructure engineers and computing specialists to design and disseminate efficient bioimaging pipelines.<\/p>\n<p>Itano joined the\u00a0<em>BioTechniques<\/em>\u00a0editorial board in 2020 and has made invaluable contributions to the journal since. Her new position as editor-in-chief begins immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited to be joining\u00a0<em>BioTechniques<\/em>\u00a0in this role, particularly at a time when the life sciences are rapidly evolving,\u201d Itano said. \u201cI look forward to seeking ways that\u00a0<em>BioTechniques\u00a0<\/em>can further advance and support the effort to diversify and directly address inequalities in the publishing of biomedical techniques.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In parallel,\u00a0<em>BioTechniques\u00a0<\/em>will also be launching\u00a0<em>BioTechniques<\/em>\u00a0<em>LEARN<\/em>\u00a0July 19 to provide resources covering all the areas an early-career researcher needs to support them in their career.
