The Michael Hooker Metabolomics and Proteomics (MAP) Core was recognized as a Thermo Fisher Center of Excellence in Metabolomics and Proteomics in 2025. The core manages seven state-of-the-art mass spectrometry systems for both proteomic and metabolomic services and provides additional capabilities and expertise in sample preparation, data analysis, research design, and consultation.<\/p>\n

The Center of Excellence designation was highlighted in a recent Thermo Fisher Mass Spectrometry Symposium, held in October 2025 at UNC Chapel Hill. This symposium highlighted research in the fields of metabolomics and proteomics, held a session for lightning talks on original research, and provided updates on the future of the MAP Core, including new instrument capabilities in the fields of clinical proteomics, targeted and untargeted metabolomics. The core is here as a service to the UNC Chapel Hill community to ensure access to expertise and highly rigorous methodology for MS-based proteomic and metabolomic studies.<\/p>\n
