SOM Clinical Research SOPs
The SOM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are retired as formal SOPs as of July 1, 2025. The SOPs were the result of thoughtful collaboration and dedication from the SOM clinical research community and played a vital role in shaping the institutional best practices we rely on today. While they will not be maintained as formal SOPs, the knowledge and structure they provided continue to inform and support resources that can now be shared more broadly across the institution.
To better support the clinical research community, all relevant guidance and procedural content from the SOPs has been consolidated into the Clinical Research Playbooks available on the One UNC Clinical Research website. This transition is intended to provide the community with ongoing accessible and up-to-date guidance while offering the flexibility needed by individual units to define detailed operations based on their unique requirements.
We encourage all clinical research teams to begin using the Playbooks as their primary resource for operational guidance. The former SOM SOPs may still be accessed for reference at One UNC Clinical Research Connections: Retired SOM SOPs.
