It is specifically designed as a \u201cfront-end\u201d interface to other components of the Center for Structural Biology. However, the ability to produce and purify milligram amount of protein enables a broad array of applications and research that extend far beyond the bounds of structural biology, as protein reagents are essential to most areas of biomedical research.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Protein Expression and Purification Core Lab\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mupwNa3MuJA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2>The facility offers three categories of service:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/csb\/pep\/services\/expression-services\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Protein Expression<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/csb\/pep\/services\/protein-purification\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Protein Purification<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/csb\/pep\/services\/training-expertise-and-consultation\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scientific Consultation, Mentoring, and Training<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The PEP Core is happy to do work for researchers at UNC as well as those at non-UNC academic institutions and commercial companies.<\/p>\n<h2>Our offerings and strengths include the following:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Recombinant protein expression in HEK, CHO, hybridoma, and bacterial cells.<\/li>\n<li>Cell culture if you need large numbers of cells.<\/li>\n<li>Numerous chromatography methods available for purification.<\/li>\n<li>High production scales for immunizations, drug discovery, and structural biology.<\/li>\n<li>Low endotoxin protein production.<\/li>\n<li>Custom packages to efficiently suit your needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2327 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/csb\/pep\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/908\/2018\/11\/e574f312-515f-40cf-95af-617824ed71cf.png\" alt=\"the words, &quot;Cite and Submit!&quot;\" width=\"200\" height=\"35\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We obtain on-going support from the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center through the University Cancer Research Fund and the Cancer Center Support Grant.
