A sim tech oversees a simulation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Welcome to the Simulation, Experiential Learning, and Training Center (SET) at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Located in Roper Hall, students and learners from the SOM and across UNC’s campus and beyond come to the SET Centyer to practice clinical skills, communication skills, and teamwork in a clinical setting. We also conduct a range of student assessments.<\/p>\n

The CSPSC is a 25,000 sq ft facility that houses 24 patient examination rooms, a skills and procedure room, and six fully equipped patient simulation labs.<\/p>\n

Students at the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Public Health all utilize the patient examination rooms to interview and examine Standardized Patients (SPs)<\/a>. SPs are members of the community hired and trained to portray case scenarios for the students to practice communicating with patients and performing physical examinations. Every encounter is recorded by CAE<\/a> LearningSpace.<\/p>\n

Simulation is a cornerstone of patient safety as it allows individuals to hone their skills without risk to real people. Our Patient Simulation Lab<\/a> hosts high-fidelity adult, child, and infant simulators capable of demonstrating physiological responses to interventions by the learners. Used by medical students and residents, the simulation lab also uses lower-fidelity models and task trainers for teaching and practicing airway management, catheterization, basic and advanced cardiac life support, and more.<\/p>\n
