The National Institutes of Health is working on a Grant Support Index (GSI) to more equally distribute funding amongst investigators.

In an effort to more equally distribute funding, the NIH will be discussing the implementation of a Grant Support Index (GSI) with their Advisory Councils in the next few weeks. The GSI, which you may also know as the Research Commitment Index, aims to limit the number of grants and funding per investigator while also keeping in mind that certain areas of biomedical science inherently are more expensive to research than others. The NIH will be accepting feedback over the coming months. CWHR will send out more information as it is released.
