{"id":2318,"date":"2009-03-17T16:35:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-17T20:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/derm\/patient-care\/specialties\/autoimmune-diseases\/"},"modified":"2021-04-29T11:15:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T15:15:19","slug":"autoimmune-diseases","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/derm\/patient-care\/clinical-services\/complex-medical-dermatology\/autoimmune-diseases\/","title":{"rendered":"Autoimmune Blistering Disorders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The autoimmune disorders clinic is designed specifically for patients with serious autoimmune blistering disorders of the skin and mucosal tissues including all forms of pemphigus and pemphigoid (including mucous membrane pemphigoid), linear IgA bullous dermatosis and dermatitis herpetiformis.\u00a0 These diseases are considered autoimmune diseases, where the immune system incorrectly fights against the body\u2019s own tissues leading to damage of the skin and other tissues.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\">As these diseases are complex and rare, they require highly specialized treatment by expert physicians in Immunodermatology. The UNC Department of Dermatology is fortunate to have world experts in diagnosing and treating these autoimmune diseases with services available to patients from North Carolina, other states, and abroad. Our diagnostic procedures include evaluations of skin biopsies and highly specific immunological studies including direct and indirect immunofluorescence.
