Leslie H. Nelson-Bernier has served as President of the UNC Health Foundation and Associate Dean for Development of the UNC School of Medicine since January 2018.
Serving the people of North Carolina since 1949, the UNC Health Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health. In her dual leadership roles, Nelson-Bernier oversees a dynamic team of nearly 60 development professionals who raise critical statewide support for research, education and patient care programs across North Carolina.
Nelson-Bernier joined the UNC Health Foundation in 2005 and has built a standout reputation as a high-achieving leader. Her experience in Chapel Hill includes successful work at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Pathology and the UNC Neuroscience Center. Prior to assuming her current roles, she most recently served as Senior Executive Director of Development and Communications for UNC Children’s.
UNC Health is currently in a $1 billion campaign as part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s $4.25 billion campaign For All Kind.
Prior to her service at the UNC Health Foundation, Nelson-Bernier spent a decade in corporate sales and event management in the hotel industry. She began her fundraising career as Associate Director of Development for the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture.
