Associate Dean for Finance & Business Operations

Patricia “Patsy” Oliver serves as the Associate Dean for Finance and Business Operations in the UNC School of Medicine. The UNC School of Medicine Office of Finance and Business Operations (FBO) is responsible for financial reporting at both the departmental and School levels, serving 63 departments, centers, and institutes, and the Dean’s Office. FBO provides leadership and direction in the areas of accounting, budgeting, strategic planning, and analysis of financial operations to the entire School.

Ms. Oliver has served UNC Chapel Hill since 1984, progressing through a series of finance positions with increasing levels of responsibility. In the School of Medicine, she has held positions as systems accountant, and accounting manager, serving as the School’s controller. Ms. Oliver assumed her position as Assistant Dean in 2007. Her duties include providing leadership and consultation in fiscal matters, performing financial accounting functions for the School, and implementing cash management procedures to ensure availability of cash for capital projects and ongoing operating needs.

Ms. Oliver serves, or has served, on various University committees, including: EPAWeb web-based personnel actions application, ConnectCarolina enterprise resource planning, Effort Reporting, and Research Advisory.

In April 2010, Ms. Oliver was awarded the C. Knox Massey Distinguished Service Award for “unusual, meritorious or superior contribution…to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.”

She holds bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business from Elon University in Elon, N.C.
