Experts in Listening and Spoken Language<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

The Children\u2019s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC has been a leader in teaching children who are deaf or hard of hearing how to listen and talk for over 25 years.<\/p>\n

UNC has four pediatric speech language pathologists (SLPS) certified as Listening and Spoken Language Specialists<\/a>, each with over 20 years of experience.\u00a0\u00a0 They are skilled in teaching parents the tools and strategies needed to help their child be successful. Therapy sessions can occur either in person or by virtual tele-health video visits.<\/p>\n

Additional Therapy and Support Options<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We provide therapy for children who are deaf or hard of hearing with other learning differences, which may include autism or apraxia.\u00a0 We also collaborate closely with professionals throughout the state to help families find the most appropriate services for their child\/children.\u00a0 Children who need visual communication support through Cued Speech or Sign Language can also receive services here at UNC.<\/p>\n

Speech Language Evaluations<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We provide evaluations for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and can provide goals and recommendations for parents and local therapists.<\/p>\n

Training and Coaching Professionals<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We train speech pathologists, teachers and audiologists throughout the state of NC and around the country. \u00a0We have several different training and coaching opportunities and our current options are available here.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n
