{"id":2279,"date":"2018-07-31T15:48:29","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T19:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/elsi\/?page_id=2279"},"modified":"2020-01-06T09:02:35","modified_gmt":"2020-01-06T14:02:35","slug":"training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/elsi\/ceer\/training\/","title":{"rendered":"Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of our missions was to train the next generation of ELSI researchers by providing individuals with the experience, knowledge, and skills they need to be centrally involved in explicating the forces shaping genomic science and medicine, and in examining the impact of genomics in multiple domains.<\/p>\n<p>A core group of post-doctoral fellows and graduate student trainees engaged with CGS investigators in research and policy activities, and worked with their mentors to develop individualized training plans and research projects.<br \/>\nCGS training activities modeled and promoted skills essential to ELSI research and interdisciplinary collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Activities included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Collaborating with CGS investigators on research projects and policy initiatives<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Co-authoring with CGS investigators<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Designing and conducting independent research projects<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Participating in CGS training seminars\/journal club\/writing group\/professional development courses<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Participating in cross-CEER training activities<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Attending courses\/workshops in bioethics, medical genetics, and empirical and conceptual research methods<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p>Presenting ELSI research at conferences<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Learn more about our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/elsi\/about-the-center\/trainees-2\/\">CGS Trainees<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/elsi\/about-the-center\/postdoctoral-fellows\/\">Postdoctoral Research Fellows<\/a>.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of our missions was to train the next generation of ELSI researchers by providing individuals with the experience, knowledge, and skills they need to be centrally involved in explicating the forces shaping genomic science and medicine, and in examining the impact of genomics in multiple domains.
