lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">In traditional predictive genetic testing, like<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> for<\/span> <\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">BRCA <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">or Huntington\u2019s Disease, single gene variants are analyzed to determine whether an individual is at high risk of developing <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">a <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">disease. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun AdvancedProofingIssueV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">The<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun AdvancedProofingIssueV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\"> vast majority of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> diseases<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">, however,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> are polygenic\u2014<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> caused by <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">many different genes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">.<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">Polygenic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> scores (PGS) <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">have been heralded for their promise to predict risk for <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">these more<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">complex diseases<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> like heart disease or diabetes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> by <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">measuring the contribution of hundreds or thousands<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> of genetic variants at once. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">Yet b<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">eyond prediction of health outcomes, the realm of \u2018<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">sociogenomics<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">\u2019 is developing scores measuring genetic contributions to social and behavioral factors, such as risk tolerance, income, educational attainment, sexuality, or optimism.<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">Sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> PGS<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> often<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> blur the lines between medical and social outcomes, such as with scores for drinking, smoking, or reproductive behavior.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This project addresses the following research questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">What are the current trends and potential future development of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> PGS and what are the possible uses of scores in social settings<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">How do various stakeholders perceive the benefits and risks of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> PGS<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\">How well do existing laws and policies<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> protect against the potential harms of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW724165 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW724165 BCX8\"> PGS and promote the benefits?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Specific Aims<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">Using horizon scanning methodologies, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">map<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> the landscape of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> PGS<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">, their potential uses, and how <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> research findings are presented to <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">and consumed by <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">the public. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">Enlist those involved in the pipeline of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">sociogenomics<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> research (biobank participants, P<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">GS<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> researchers, and social scientists) to examine and assess their attitudes toward the range of harms and benefits of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> PGS<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">, the blurring of the line between social and medical traits, and the implications of varying<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\"> uses of PGS in social settings.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">Conduct a legal and policy analysis of how current legal rules protect against potential misuse and\/or promote possible benefits of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW9578394 BCX8\">sociogenomic<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW9578394 BCX8\">
