He and Andrew recently celebrated Match Day together as part of the festivities in UNC&#8217;s Roper Hall.<\/p>\n<p>After a long and distinguished career, Dr. Harmody retired from Sandhills Emergency Medicine Physicians, where he worked at FirstHealth of the Carolinas in Pinehurst, N.C., as well as at several other area hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Before retiring, he worked in numerous professional roles, just a few of which included being a Medical Director for EMS and Critical Care Transport, Chief of Medical Staff, and an Emergency Department Director.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the many notable aspects of his career, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.unchealthcare.org\/2018\/04\/former-emergency-medicine-resident-featured-in-health-care-magazine-for-201cpaying-it-forward201d\/\">in 2018 Dr. Harmody donated a kidney<\/a> at the age of 56, as a tribute to his own father, who died of renal disease after nearly a decade of struggling with the condition. His donation of a healthy kidney to a stranger was anonymous and unmatched &#8212; no strings attached.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Harmody, son of Matt Harmody is a member of the UNC School of Medicine Class of 2025, and recently matched with UNC Emergency Medicine&#8217;s residency class of 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew also worked as a R<span aria-hidden=\"true\">esearch Assistant in UNC&#8217;s <\/span><span class=\"t-14 t-normal\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\">Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Prior to attending UNC, he graduated with a Bachelor&#8217;s of Science\/Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University.<\/p>\n<p>The UNC EM Residency program was founded in 1995 by Dr. Judith Tintinalli, and initially had six residents per class. It has since grown to include 14 residents per class.
