\"\"His research project will focus on evaluating the impact of ambient AI scribing tools on Emergency Department (ED) clinician productivity, documentation efficiency, medical coding, and usability.<\/p>\n

The use of ambient AI scribing tools benefits ED clinicians who face high patient volumes, time constraints, and increasing clinical complexity by automatically generating draft notes from patient conversations, reducing documentation burden and provider burnout.<\/p>\n

These research findings will inform broader decisions about AI tool integration in acute care settings at UNC Health to guide best practices in implementing AI digital health strategy in a responsible, evidence-based manner – ensuring they support the complex realities of emergency care delivery.<\/p>\n

The award, which is granted through the office of Faculty Affairs, is designed to assist fixed-term faculty in their research and scholarly endeavors.<\/p>\n

Dr. John Kim is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the UNC Department of Emergency Medicine, with a Master\u2019s degree in health informatics from Duke University. He focuses on system healthcare organizational leadership, strategic enterprise data architecture, and responsible AI implementation and governance.
