Shortly after I discovered otolaryngology, I was committed. Every aspect of otolaryngology matched up with my goals and values: that it allows me to serve patients of all ages and identities; the profound impact we have on quality of life through hearing, breathing, speaking, and swallowing; that we consider both form and function; the surgical meticulousness given the territory; the breadth of work, from major operations to minor procedures in clinic; and, above all, the people — the culture of humility and kindness, and potential for promoting access to ENT care across underserved communities.
