{"id":110,"date":"2015-09-11T16:20:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T20:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.sites.unc.edu\/ent\/patient-care\/clinical-services\/facial-plastic-and-reconstructive-surgery-1\/postoperative-instructions\/blepharoplasty-postoperative-instructions\/"},"modified":"2017-12-19T12:39:47","modified_gmt":"2017-12-19T17:39:47","slug":"blepharoplasty-postoperative-instructions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/ent\/postoperative-instructions\/blepharoplasty-postoperative-instructions\/","title":{"rendered":"Blepharoplasty Postoperative Instructions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- portlet_header --><\/p>\n<p><!-- portlet_above --><\/p>\n<p><!-- description --><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">\n<p><b style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; \">SUPPLIES:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">4X4 Gauze Pads (provided by the clinical staff)                   <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Saline Solution (provided by the clinical staff)                                               <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Ophthalmic Ointment (prescription)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Q-tips<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Ice packs (may use sandwich bags with crushed ice)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; \">INSTRUCTIONS:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Clean incision sites twice a day with saline solution on a Q-tip and apply Ophthalmic Ointment with a Q-tip twice a day for one week.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Apply saline soaked ice gauze first to eyelid and then cover with frozen packs of peas\/ice packs for the first 48 hours post-op.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Avoid stressful activity, bending over (\u201chead down\u201d position) and heavy lifting greater than 15 lbs) until sutures are removed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">You may shower the day after surgery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Avoid makeup to incision sites until 24 hours after the sutures have been removed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; \">WHAT TO EXPECT:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Bruising, swelling, and \u201coozing\u201d of blood are normal and expected.  Swelling and bruising may start at the eyebrow area and \u201cwork its way down\u201d toward cheek area before completely resolving, generally over a period of 7-10 days.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;
