\"Dr.<\/a>Assistant Professor Adam J. Kimple, MD, PhD, FACS, FARS<\/a>\u00a0is named a CO-PI on a\u00a0Chan Zuckerberg Initiative<\/a>\u00a0(CZI) grant that provides $33 million in grants to support\u00a0collaborative groups of researchers and pediatricians<\/a>\u00a0to better understand, prevent, and treat childhood diseases. These 17 groups of researchers represent 15 countries and will contribute healthy pediatric single-cell reference data to the global\u00a0Human Cell Atlas<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a kind of Google Earth view of human cell architecture.<\/p>\n

The six UNC-Chapel Hill, researchers leading a $3.5-million CZI project titled, \u201cMapping the Pediatric Inhalation Interface: Nose, Mouth, and Airways\u201d seek to better understand how cells lining the nose, mouth and airways \u2013 as well as their associated fluids such as mucus \u2013 interact to maintain respiratory health or play roles in diseases throughout childhood.<\/p>\n
