Associate Professor, Emergency Medicine
Director, UNC Office of Academic Excellence

Dr. Shenvi is a board-certified, practicing Emergency Physician with a passion for education and professional development. She received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, her PhD from UC-Berkeley, and her MD from Yale. She completed residency in Emergency medicine (EM) and fellowship training in geriatric EM at UNC and has stayed on faculty at UNC since then. Dr. Shenvi has served on the leadership council of the UNC Academy of Educators, where she co-created the mentored membership program for junior faculty development. She was the Associate Residency Director for EM at UNC for 7 years. She co-directs the national teaching fellowship for the American College of Emergency Physicians targeted towards junior faculty development in education, and she has received numerous national and UNC teaching awards.

As APWIMS president, she is excited about community and empowerment. Her goals are to find new, creative ways to connect faculty with each other to create community, and ways to connect faculty with the outstanding resources that are available through the Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development office. She also hopes to empower and encourage women in the medical sciences in their personal and career development pathways.

Attending APWIMS events and developing connections with other faculty have been key in Dr. Shenvi’s own career. She says: “The serendipitous connections that we can make at events like the ones that APWIMS sponsors can change the course of your career. In addition to the inspiration from the speakers, those connections can become meaningful sources of mentorship, engagement, and community.” As a mother of four, she hopes to highlight the diverse paths that women can take to be successful and that, most importantly, we can define success for ourselves.
