DESCRIPTION:The Academy of Educators invites interested faculty to save the date and register for the upcoming Faculty Development workshop with Christina Shenvi\, MD\, PhD\, FACEP on November 7th from 12:00 – 1:00PM in Bondurant 2020. \nParticipants will learn how to:\n-Design effective powerpoint presentations using cognitive load theory as a guiding principle\n-Create a powerful beginning and ending to their presentation\n-Use resets or pauses in their lectures to regain and retain audience interest and participation\n-Tune their message to the audiences “WIIFM” wavelength\n-Understand how to design\, practice\, and deliver powerful\, memorable\, and effective presentations \nLight refreshments will be provided.  Please RSVP here by Friday\, November 2nd to join us in person or online. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the annual Frank Wilson Professionalism Workshop on October 17\, 2018 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM in Bondurant 2020. RSVP here to attend.  Lunch will be provided. See below for event description and speaker bio. \n  \nFrom Authority to Ally: Making a Difference for Diversity and Inclusion\n \nFaculty\, preceptors\, mentors\, staff members\, and peers play important roles in the life of a medical student. But the influence we have in each other’s lives becomes that much more powerful when we act as allies to those with marginalized identities. In this interactive workshop\, we’ll address what it means to act as an ally. As our classes become increasingly diverse\, medical schools will need allies at every point of a student’s journey – from learning in the classroom and lab to residencies\, student groups and interacting with staff. Whatever your role\, you can choose to be part of an institutional effort to address bias\, increase inclusion\, and build community. \n  \n \nAnne Phibbs\, PhD is Founder and President of Strategic Diversity Initiatives and brings over 25 years’ experience helping organizations advance their equity\, diversity\, and inclusion goals.  Anne has extensive experience in training\, teaching\, curriculum development\, and training of trainers\, and has delivered workshops and classes to participants in corporate\, government\, higher education\, nonprofit\, healthcare\, and faith community settings.  Anne served as GLBT Student Services Director at Metropolitan State University\, and at the University of Minnesota she served as Director of the GLBTA Programs Office and Director of Education in the Office for Equity and Diversity.  Anne built a successful diversity and inclusion leadership program at the University of Minnesota\, with a focus on emotional intelligence (EI)\, and she is an EI Practitioner certified in the EQ-i2.0 and EQ360 method.  Anne earned her PhD in Philosophy and Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota and lives in Minneapolis.
