SUMMARY:Academy of Educators Frank Wilson Professionalism Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the annual Frank Wilson Professionalism Workshop on October 17\, 2018 from 4:30 – 6:00 PM in Bondurant G100. RSVP here to attend.  Refreshments will be provided during the reception from 4:30 – 5:00 PM. See below for event description and speaker bio. \n  \nMaking it Better? Medicine\, Diversity\, and Practicing in a Rapidly Changing Landscape \nPhysicians and health care providers have always been about “making it better\,” whether that involves bandaging wounds\, researching cures for diseases\, or bringing compassion and care to anyone – and everyone – in need. But is it possible that sometimes physicians and health care providers make it worse? In this presentation\, we’ll look at how a focus on addressing diversity and inclusion – including microaggressions and implicit bias – is changing our social interactions\, including those involving patients\, family members\, community members\, and other providers. Whether you’re new to these ideas or already thinking about diversity and inclusion\, this presentation will help you consider how to keep making it better\, even in this rapidly changing society. \n  \n \nAnne Phibbs\, PhD is Founder and President of Strategic Diversity Initiatives and brings over 25 years’ experience helping organizations advance their equity\, diversity\, and inclusion goals.  Anne has extensive experience in training\, teaching\, curriculum development\, and training of trainers\, and has delivered workshops and classes to participants in corporate\, government\, higher education\, nonprofit\, healthcare\, and faith community settings.  Anne served as GLBT Student Services Director at Metropolitan State University\, and at the University of Minnesota she served as Director of the GLBTA Programs Office and Director of Education in the Office for Equity and Diversity.  Anne built a successful diversity and inclusion leadership program at the University of Minnesota\, with a focus on emotional intelligence (EI)\, and she is an EI Practitioner certified in the EQ-i2.0 and EQ360 method.  Anne earned her PhD in Philosophy and Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota and lives in Minneapolis.
