On behalf of Dr. Nathan Thomas, Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Dr. Cristy Page, Executive Dean of the UNC School of Medicine:<\/em><\/p>\n

As a School of Medicine community, it is important to process and discuss what is happening across the country as it directly impacts each of us, our work, and our learning environments.<\/p>\n

In order to facilitate\u00a0this,\u00a0the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Dean\u2019s Office\u00a0will\u00a0host a large group town hall\u00a0for\u00a0faculty, staff, students,\u00a0and trainees to discuss the emotional toll\u00a0associated with\u00a0recent events.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0town hall<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will feature a panel of leaders and will take place on Wednesday June 3, at 4:30 \u2013 6 p.m.\u00a0via WebEx<\/a><\/strong> (further details below). Please feel free to pre-submit your thoughts and questions here via this Qualtrics<\/strong><\/a> link so that we may address some of them during Wednesday\u2019s town hall.<\/p>\n

The recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breona Taylor have left us all feeling angry, lost, and sad. These deaths have come as COVID-19 further emphasized the health inequities that persist in our country.<\/p>\n

These events are a clear call to action for all of us. Thanks to the many faculty, staff, and students who have sent emails or statements related to these events\u00a0to demonstrate\u00a0your support and solidarity. We hope that this Town Hall will be a chance for us all to come together to acknowledge and validate our individual experiences while creating a path to healing as a community.<\/p>\n

Following the large town hall,\u00a0we will\u00a0plan\u00a0smaller group sessions that will focus on\u00a0strategies to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0more personal conversations and\u00a0action steps to address Diversity Equity and Inclusion issues\u00a0within our work and learning environments.\u00a0It is important for us to support the emotional well-being of our colleagues, students, trainees, and staff regarding these issues and to implement a plan to move us Forward Together<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
