In addition to physical exhaustion, these abilities can be compromised by poor nutrition and hydration, particularly in the face of heavy workloads, long work hours, high stress, and sleep deprivation. There is evidence that certain nutritional strategies can mitigate fatigue and improve our cognitive and physical performance. This talk briefly overviews the latest research on practical nutritional strategies that can help improve cognitive performance in professionals with high cognitive demands. Makowski, Ph.D., NBC-HWC, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Associate Director of Scholarship and Health Promotion of the Stanford Medicine WellMD &amp; WellPhD, and a physician coach at Stanford University.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Makowski is a nutrition scientist and a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. The focus of her nutrition research is examining the effects of micro- and macro-nutrients, meal composition, and timing on cognitive function, mood, mental sharpness, and eating behaviors of professionals with high cognitive and physical demands, in particular physicians. As a coach, Maryam uses personalized evidence-based strategies to support her clients in achieving their best.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining Stanford, she served as an advisor to Air Canada rouge pilots and cabin crew on optimal nutrition for fatigue mitigation.
