FQHC TRACK RESIDENT: SILER CITY
I’m a proud native of Hendersonville, NC and grew up in the mountains before coming to UNC to study Biology and wear the best shade of blue! After graduating, I spent the next 5 years in Memphis teaching high school science, coaching rugby, and missing North Carolina barbecue. I saw my former students graduate and convinced my (now) wife to join me in NC after being accepted to UNC again, but for Medical School.
My favorite part of medical school was building relationships with the people I serve and understanding how healthcare best fits into their world. This made Family Medicine a no-brainer, but I also wanted to exceptional training in everything from delivering babies to diabetes management and even hospital medicine. I thought finding this kind of training and continuing my passion for Latino Health would be impossible until I realized I was right in the middle of it. I applied to UNC for a third time, and am proud to join a group of kind and talented doctors at UNC Family Medicine and the Siler City Community Health Center.
My other interests include the playing and watching sports, photography, flea markets, and mentoring pre-med students. In our free time, my wife and I can be found hiking or eating spicy foods anywhere in North Carolina!

Mis padres salvadoreños nos criaron a mi hermano y a mí en las montañas de Carolina del Norte. Para la universidad, asistí UNC Chapel Hill y estudié biología. Después de graduarme, trabajé como maestro de ciencias en Memphis, TN y durante esos cinco años también introduje rugby y las pupusas de mi mamá a mis alumnos. Cuando mis alumnos acabaron la secundaria/preparatoria, convencí a mi (ahora) esposa que nos mudáramos a Carolina del Norte después de ser aceptado nuevamente a la escuela de medicina de UNC.
Lo que me encantó de la escuela de medicina fue la oportunidad de establecer relaciones con los pacientes y aprender sobre su uso de la asistencia médica aquí en los EE. UU. Por eso mismo, sabía que me quería especializar en medicina familiar, pero también quería un entrenamiento excepcional, desde el parto de un embarazo hasta el control de la diabetes e incluso la medicina hospitalaria. Pensaba que encontrar un programa que lo hacía todo y que se enfocaba en la salud de los latinos iba a ser imposible hasta que me di cuenta de que ya lo estaba viviendo. Apliqué a UNC por tercera vez y ahora estoy orgulloso de formar parte de un grupo de médicos amables y talentosos en UNC y el Centro de Salud Comunitario de Siler City.
Me encanta jugar cualquier deporte incluyendo el fútbol, ver a los Carolina Panthers, tomar fotos e ir a las pulgas (flea markets). En nuestro tiempo libre, nos pueden encontrar a mi esposa y a mí disfrutando comidas picantes y del senderismo en cualquier lugar de Carolina del Norte.
