The Department of Family Medicine is proud to promote a community of equity and respect. The Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health successfully recruited an alumna underrepresented minority Fellow, Dr. Nailah Adams Morancie, to serve on the faculty in 2020, and she was selected for the position of Program Director in April 2021. Dr. Adams Morancie is the first woman and second physician of African descent to serve as the Program Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship.

We provide educational and leadership opportunities designed to develop excellence in all areas of our sports medicine competencies. We strive to promote the development of our trainees in an environment where our colleagues demonstrate professionalism, enhance learning, and foster personal and professional sustainability. Furthermore, our program director was selected as the UNC School of Medicine Representative at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Minority Faculty Leadership Development Seminar, gaining invaluable insight into having a mentor to guide through career achievements, and being a mentor to a diverse cadre of learners.
