Karen Halpert, MD
Graduate of University of Florida
Born in Wisconsin but moved around the country and world (London, England), before my family landed in South Florida. From a young age, I knew I wanted to leave the sunshine state and was excited to head to St Louis where I received my Bachelors in Psychology from Washington University in St Louis. I studied medicine at the University of Florida and there my passion for primary care blossomed! Clinically, I am interested in geriatrics and women’s reproductive health.
One of the things that drew me to UNC was the intensity of the program and the great people. During my interview, I was impressed by the support the residents and faculty provided each other and this has only grown since starting intern year! There is not a time during clinic or twilight hours where someone is not inquiring about how I am doing or how we can improve my experience. Furthermore, the other services we rotate on are more than happy to teach and have us on their team. I was also drawn to the ability to work both in a community and academic hospital setting.
In my free time, I love to be outside hiking, biking or playing tennis. If forced in doors, I enjoy baking, reading or playing a fierce game of scrabble.
