Laurel Slough DO, MPH
The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)

Hello! My name is Laurel Slough, and I am so excited to be able to call North Carolina my home for the next few years. I grew up in Richmond, VA, and then went to the College of William & Mary (Go Tribe!). I majored in Neuroscience and was also able to study medical practice and policy in Denmark and Sweden. After college, I took a gap year to work as a research assistant for a diabetes clinical research group back in RVA. While there, I also coached the local high-school girls’ soccer team – almost as much fun as playing!

Heading to the mountains of southwest Virginia, I attended VCOM, the osteopathic medical school at Virginia Tech. I loved the focus on health realized through mind, body, and spirit wellness. In between my third and fourth year of medical school, I moved to Chapel Hill to pursue a Masters of Science in Public Health, focusing on maternal and child health and health behavior. It was during this time that I realized family medicine combined my passions of women’s health, adolescent care, and behavioral health.

I am beyond excited to be back at UNC for residency! Ever since being here for graduate school, I knew that UNC was the place for me. The people here at the family medicine department inspire me everyday with their dedication, energy, and innovative approaches to care. I am so thankful to be able to train with such incredible people who value teaching and knowing me as a person. In my free time, I like cooking new recipes, catching up with friends, home craft projects, and listening to live music at one of the many venues in the area! I’m always up for a good run on one of the local trails or playing a pick-up game of soccer. Hope you can come visit this special place!
