Resident Physician

Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Adam Willson and I was originally born in rainy Manchester, England. I spent the first 7 years of my life living in England before my family moved to just outside of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. We explored the deserts for 3 years before moving to Cary, North Carolina when I was 10 years old. I have called North Carolina my home since that time and went to North Carolina State University (Go Pack) for undergrad where I received a degree in biomedical engineering. I worked as a research assistant for a year after this prior to starting medical school at UNC Chapel Hill.

Prior to starting medical school I always had an interest in Family Medicine, and that continued to grow as I progressed in my training. I spent time in medical school working in our student run free clinic, SHAC, which provided access to medical care for the underserved in our community. These experiences taught me how important primary care and easy access to care is for a community. It also reaffirmed my desire to provide continuity of care and develop long lasting relationships with my patients.

I feel so lucky to be able to complete my residency training with UNC Family Medicine. I continue to be impressed by the amazing faculty and residents that I work with and how much they all care for their patients. There really is an emphasis on training in full scope family medicine and we are all able to explore our own specific interests. I have interests in underserved care, sports medicine and global health.

Outside of work I love to spend time with my wife and dog, hang out with friends and family, watch and play soccer, run and binge Netflix TV shows.
