Director, Weight Management Program and Tobacco Treatment Program

Biographical Information

As the Director of the UNC Tobacco Treatment and Weight Management Programs, Dr. Shoenbill is strongly committed to evaluating and optimizing tobacco use treatment and behavioral weight management interventions. She believes in the importance of meeting patients where they are on the behavior change continuum to assist and empower them on their individual journeys to better health.

Dr. Shoenbill is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and faculty member of the Program on Health and Clinical Informatics where she is Director of the UNC Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program. She earned her MD at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and completed her Family Medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Shoenbill also completed her PhD in Clinical Investigation and a National Library of Medicine postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She completed her tobacco treatment training with the Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program. She holds dual board certification in Family Medicine and Clinical Informatics.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Shoenbill’s research interests include secondary use of electronic health record data, natural language processing, and machine learning to inform and improve quality of care and patient outcomes.
