Biographical Information<\/h2>\n

Dr. Kowitt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. She received her MPH and PhD from the Department of Health Behavior in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at UNC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Areas of Interest<\/h2>\n

Dr.\u00a0Kowitt\u2019s\u00a0research focuses on preventing and reducing tobacco and cannabis use. Within this field, she is most interested in advancing policies, regulations, and health communication strategies. Her NIH-funded career development award focuses on developing and evaluating messages to reduce dual\/poly tobacco use among youth and young adults. Dr. Kowitt also co-leads Project 4 in UNC\u2019s Center Grant on Tobacco Regulatory Science (TCORS), focused on understanding the impact of vaping prevention ads among youth and young adults.\u00a0Most recently, Dr. Kowitt serves as PI of an NIH-funded R01 focused on strengthening cannabis warning labels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Kowitt has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in journals that include\u00a0Health Affairs<\/i>,\u00a0JAMA Network Open<\/i>,\u00a0American Journal of Public Health<\/i>,\u00a0Addiction<\/i>,\u00a0Journal of Adolescent Health<\/i>,\u00a0Tobacco Control<\/i>, and\u00a0Nicotine and Tobacco Research<\/i>. She has expertise in experimental design, discrete choice experiments, behavioral RCTs, and other quantitative and qualitative research methods. Dr. Kowitt is also a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and a research fellow at the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.<\/p>\n
