UNIVERSITY TRACK RESIDENT<\/p>\n
Hey y\u2019all, my name is Ke\u2019Yon! I am from a rural town called Lisbon, Louisiana. I spent all of my life in north Louisiana before coming here. I received my Bachelor\u2019s in Biology and Master\u2019s in Social Sciences from Grambling State University, \u201cwhere everybody is somebody\u201d. I completed medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). I have participated in countless hours of community service, served as a high school educator, and also participated in scientific research. If you ask my family, they will tell you that I have had a curious mind since the day I learned how to talk, which I think blended well with my passion for medicine.<\/p>\n
My interest in medicine stemmed from my admiration of the physicians and healthcare workers who took care of me during my early childhood. Over time, that passion continued to grow and was solidified after I spent a summer of high school with A-HEC. Throughout life, my experiences have allowed me to live and see the impact that socioeconomic factors can have on underserved populations and communities. I dream of being someone who can help alleviate these burdens for as many people as I can. One of the things that keeps me going is knowing that I am not only doing this for myself, but for anyone who has not gotten the care that they deserve or need. Family Medicine gives me the tools I would need to make the changes I would like to see. The flexibility in types of care you can provide is one of a kind. I love informing people about the field because they have not seen it practiced the way I have.<\/p>\n
Outside of medicine, I love the outdoors, sports, cooking, history, traveling, playing video games with friends, and trying new things (except skydiving or cruises). I am looking forward to hiking some of the mountains here in North Carolina, because we don\u2019t have any back home. I am a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc and love getting involved in community improvement and outreach.<\/p>\n
Who would have thought that UNC could pull a Louisiana boy this far from home? I am certainly glad they did. I could go on all day about how wonderful the faculty and staff have been to me. They have really made it feel like a home away from home. I am blessed and forever grateful for the opportunity, and there is no other place I can see myself furthering my medical career than here with my UNC family.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
