Hello from UNC Family Medicine!\u00a0 I arrived here in North Carolina via a somewhat circuitous route.\u00a0 Born in Seattle (Go Mariners!), I moved to California when I was young and spent my more formative years in Los Angeles.\u00a0 I majored in philosophy at a small liberal arts school and decided that, before starting up medical school, I would seek a degree in Bioethics.\u00a0 There weren\u2019t a ton of programs at the time and my favorite was at Wake Forest University, so my new wife and I packed up and moved to North Carolina just two weeks after getting married!<\/p>\n
While at Wake I wrote my thesis on healthcare policy and undocumented immigrants in NC.\u00a0 I fell in love with the state and wanted to attend medical school at a place where I could learn how to provide excellent primary care for underserved populations.\u00a0 Although my wife and I always expected to move back to California, UNC turned out to be the perfect institution to cultivate these interests.<\/p>\n
As you have probably deduced, it is unclear if I will ever make it back to California.\u00a0 While at UNC I directed our student-run continuity clinic for the underserved, learned Spanish while working at a clinic in Guatemala, and fell in love with the state and my patients.\u00a0 The UNC FM program and community are absolutely unparalleled.\u00a0\u00a0 During my time in medical school I was continually inspired by this department\u2019s passion for the underserved of NC and dedication to pursuing equitable policy solutions both locally and nationally.\u00a0 Not to mention that the people continue to amaze me in both talent, passion, and general incredibleness.<\/p>\n
I am here for another 3 years (at least), and I could not be more thrilled.\u00a0 In my spare time, my number one priority is spending time with my exceptionally lovely wife, Rachael, and our endearingly neurotic dog, Watson.\u00a0 We enjoy running the beautiful NC trails, travelling, reading, watching movies, and drinking delicious beverages (Pinot Noir and a well-crafted Old Fashioned are my favorites!).\u00a0 If you are curious about our program or how UNC could be so great that it dragged me away from Southern California, I\u2019d be delighted to chat with you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
