UNC has a nationally renowned program in family medicine, and we provide a foundation for the students to interact and learn from the excellent family physicians and residents staff here. In addition, we support community involvement activities in preventive medicine, medical skills enhancement, and leadership roles for students wishing to be involved in primary care. Furthermore, we provide an opportunity to learn more about the opportunities available in the field of family medicine. The Healer\u2019s Art course provides support for first- and second year (but is open to all years) medical students in recognizing, valuing, and preserving the human dimension of health care. Students and faculty participate together in a discovery model. The process-based curriculum enables students to appreciate the personal and universal meaning of medicine, in their daily lives!<\/p>\n<p>The 15-hour elective course for students consists of 5 evening sessions. Each three-hour session is divided into a large-group and small-group experience.<\/p>\n<p>Small groups are facilitated by physicians recruited from medical school faculty and the community practice. Each session builds upon the insights and content of the previous session. NCAFP\u2019s Rural Health Programs are (2)-week immersion experiences in rural family medicine in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncafp.com\/students\/leadership-elective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCAFP Student Leadership Elective<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The goal of NCAFP\u2019s Leadership Elective is to increase a student\u2019s knowledge of organized medicine and its role in medical education, including programs designed specifically for medical students and residents.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"external-link\" title=\"NCAFP \/ AAFP Loans &amp; Funding Programs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncafp.com\/students\/summerprograms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCAFP \/ AAFP Loans &amp; Funding Programs<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The North Carolina Academy provides a number of funding options to medical student members interested in family medicine.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pisacano.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pisacano Leadership Foundation Scholarship<\/a> \u2013 Students entering their fourth year of Medical School in the Fall of 2025.
