Cristen P. Page, MD, MPH, has been named the William B. Aycock Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. She served in the position on an interim basis since April of 2016. A nationally recognized innovator, clinician and educator, Page will lead the department through a time of great growth and change.<\/p>\n
\u201cHealth care is changing rapidly. The faculty at UNC Family Medicine includes some of the nation\u2019s leading experts in primary care and health care delivery. We are well positioned to dramatically expand our work to meet the needs of our state and nation,\u201d Page said.<\/p>\n
Page has been instrumental in the development and evaluation of innovative training programs for the next generation of family medicine physicians. With support from numerous federal, state, private and public sector funding sources, Page has overseen the development and launch of the Family Medicine Rural and Underserved Track in partnership with Piedmont Health Services. Additionally, Page is the creator and director of the FIRST Scholars program, a UNC School of Medicine initiative designed to accelerate and enhance the training of family physicians to serve our state\u2019s underserved populations. The program recently announced its second cohort of students and is expanding to the Brody School of Medicine.<\/p>\n
Page is also founder and CEO of Mission3, an educational non-profit organization that improves resident education and faculty development through technology-based approaches. She consults with residencies nationwide, training faculty in evaluation and in the use of an educational tool she created, the \u201cM3App.\u201d<\/p>\n
Continuous innovation and improvement will remain Page\u2019s priorities as Chair.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf particular importance is our commitment to transform primary care to achieve the highest quality and patient experience at the lowest cost, while caring for the wellbeing of our providers and staff\u2014the Quadruple Aim,\u201d Page said.<\/p>\n
In the summer of 2016, UNC\u2019s Family Medicine Center celebrated a grand re-opening after extensive process redesign and physical renovations. The result is a highly functional, national model for primary care. Page played a key role in the redesign.<\/p>\n
Since 2011, Page has directed the UNC Family Medicine Residency Program, which is top ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report. <\/i>Under her leadership, the residency program expanded its graduates by nearly 40 percent, created mobile technology to address new ACGME standards and achieved the highest possible ACGME accreditation status.<\/p>\n
A lifelong Tar Heel, Page came to UNC as a Morehead Scholar. She received both her MD and MPH from UNC. She completed her residency at UNC Hospitals, including a year as chief resident, before joining the family medicine faculty.<\/p>\n
In an announcement to the Department of Family Medicine, William L. Roper, MD, MPH, Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and CEO of UNC Health Care, and Wesley Burks, MD, Executive Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, said: \u201cUnder Dr. Page\u2019s leadership, the Department of Family Medicine will continue to advance our clinical, research and educational missions both locally and nationally.\u201d<\/p>\n
