You may be charged for extra time if you do not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Instrument Cleaning<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;line-height: 1.43em\">Follow the cleaning listed in the Quick Reference, user guide, or affixed to the instrument. Please clean any spills and throw any used pipet tips, tube, tube caps, aluminum foil, ect. in the trash. Users are able to get trained on any of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/flowcytometry\/instrumentation\/analyzers\/\">analyzers <\/a>in the core and\/or our BSL1 sorter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/flowcytometry\/instrumentation\/sorters\/facsmelody-bsl-1\/\">the FACSMelody<\/a>.\u00a0 Currently, we do not train users on the BSL2 sorters. To help assure that each individual that gets trained receives the staff&#8217;s full attention and can independently run the cytometer, we:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Conduct all of our trainings 1-on-1<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Train users on each instrument individually<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Require that the Initial and Follow-up in-person training dates are within 2 weeks<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Require that users provide samples for the Follow-up in-person training<\/strong> (for the Aurora, ImageStream, and FACSMelody we additionally require that users provide samples for the Initial training)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Use of instrument without facility staff training is <strong>forbidden<\/strong>. User-to-user instrument training is also <strong>forbidden<\/strong>. You will only get charged from the time you start your Kiosk session to the time you terminate the session, but we do ask that users try to avoid excessive overbooking.<\/p>\n<h3>Late Arrivals<\/h3>\n<p>Appointments are available to be started up to <strong>60 minutes after scheduled start time<\/strong>. If the appointment is not started within the first 60 minutes, the appointment will be considered a No-Show.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-4\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h4 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-4\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-4\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-0-4\">\n                Cancellation and No Show Policies            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h4>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-4\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<h3>Appointments on Flow Analyzers<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You are able to freely delete, edit, or reschedule appointments on the flow analyzers <strong>up to 36 hours prior<\/strong> to your scheduled time<\/li>\n<li>Within <b>36 hours <\/b>of your scheduled appointment the iLab scheduling software locks you out from deleting\/reducing\/rescheduling.<\/li>\n<li>If you cannot make a scheduled appointment (after the lockout time- 36 hours) you should <strong>cancel<\/strong> your appointment to make the time available to others.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike deleting an appointment outside of the 36 hour window a cancellation, a cancellation will be charged a <strong>cancellation fee, <\/strong>20% scheduled instrument time.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>staff-assisted appointments<\/strong>, the cancellation fee is the cancellation fee plus up to 1 hour of staff time.<\/li>\n<li>If you do not cancel your appointment and do not show up you will be charged a <strong>No Show fee, <\/strong>1 hour of instrument time.<\/li>\n<li>If you have an allowed excuse (you are sick, kid is sick, etc.) we will waive your charges. Please notify us by emailing <a href=\"mailto:uncflowcyto@med.unc.edu\">Core Staff<\/a> as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Please be mindful of your time. Repeated and\/or excessive overbooking\/cancellation will be discussed with the user and billing PI.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>In all cases where staff assistance is required, a delay of 30 minutes (without previous notification) will result in a cancellation of the appointment. Any delays should be communicated with staff as soon as possible.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Appointments on sorters<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sorter appointments need to be cancelled\u00a0<strong>72 hours<\/strong> prior to the appointment to avoid a charge. Cancellation fee is 20% instrument time. Users are responsible for maintaining backups of their data outside the facility\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Temporary Data Storage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Network Server is available for temporary storage of FCS\/ISX data, with a retention period of up to<strong> 90 days<\/strong> in designated folders.<\/li>\n<li>Data will be automatically deleted from folders on the<strong>\u00a0first Saturday of each month<\/strong>\u00a0by an automated program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Data Responsibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Users are solely responsible for their data.<\/strong>\u00a0It is recommended that users create at least two backups: one on their lab\/office computers and another on an external drive or optical disk.<\/li>\n<li>The facility does not back up or archive user data. If old data is needed, clients must contact IT directly or request assistance through facility staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Local Data Management:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No data should be permanently saved on the local hard drives or within the software of the cytometers\u2019 computers. Temporary saving is allowed but must be deleted before the user exits the session.<\/li>\n<li>Staff clear local hard drives to assure space is available for all users.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. For the analyzers the main risk is contamination of external surfaces or a sample spill, while for sorters the main risk is aerosol generation. To minimize risk to users and staff we ask that everyone follows the safety guidelines below.<\/p>\n<h3>Analyzers<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">All areas of the flow core that house analyzers are now designated as BSL2, and all samples should be handled and treated as BLS2 at all times.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The investigator must comply with the following rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wear PPE<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 latex\/nitrile gloves, lab coat and closed toe shoes are to be used at all times.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safely Transport Samples<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Samples are to be transported to and from the analyzer rooms in an approved biosafety transport container \u2013 see details below.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Notify Staff and Clean Spills<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 If any sample is spilled in the room it is to be reported to Facility staff and cleaned up using bleach.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use Biohazard Waste Bins for Disposal<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Any samples or contaminated materials should be discarded into the red biohazard waste bag provided. No samples or other contaminated materials are to be disposed of down the sink.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clean the Instrument after use<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 When finished running your samples, follow the cleaning procedure posted on the instrument.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Sorters<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">The use of biohazardous samples on the sorters poses an elevated risk due to the generation of aerosols. Under most conditions, the aerosols are contained, but some aerosol may drift away from the instrument. The risk of aerosol exposure is particularly high when the stream hits a solid surface \u2013 as may happen when there is a partial clog in the sorting nozzle.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The sorting of viable <strong><em>biohazardous materials<\/em><\/strong> (including any human cells) may <strong>NOT<\/strong> be performed on the FACSMelody.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>BSL-2 designated samples may only be sorted on the FACSAria II\u00a0and\u00a0FACSymphony S6\u00a0by trained staff<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">If you have any questions about your sorting of biohazardous samples please contact <a href=\"mailto:ramiro_diz@med.unc.edu\">Ramiro Diz<\/a>, Facility Director, or <a href=\"mailto:ayrianna@med.unc.edu\">Ayrianna Hedgecock<\/a>, lab safety manager. At least one layer of packaging must be leak-proof if the material is a liquid.<b>\u00a0<\/b><b><i>Example<\/i><\/b>: placement of a leak-proof Vacutainer blood tube in a tube rack, and then placing the rack in closeable carrier (e.g. Igloo cooler).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>For packages containing liquids, absorbent material must be included in sufficient quantity to absorb the entire contents of the primary container should a spill occur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The outer sides of the carrier must be sprayed (prior to transport) with a disinfectant that is effective against the potentially infectious material(s) used in the laboratory. Hard plastic exteriors are best for clean ability. Once this step is complete, the outer surfaces of the carrier are considered safe for handling with bare hands.<b><i>\u00a0Lab coats and gloves should\u00a0not\u00a0be worn when transporting carriers outside the laboratory<\/i><\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>A biohazard warning label shall be applied when applicable<\/b>\u00a0to the carrier to communicate the potential hazard of its contents.
