Movement Disorders Center of Excellence in Parkinson’s Disease<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

The Movement Disorders Center at The University of North Carolina Hospitals is a subspecialty program of the UNC<\/p>\n

\"Parkinson's<\/p>\n

Department of Neurology, and is a designated Parkinson\u2019s Foundation Center of Excellence. This program has successfully supported UNC\u2019s clinical focused ultrasound program and recruited essential tremor patients for NIH-sponsored focused ultrasound research to optimize the technique of focused ultrasound ablation. The UNC Movement Disorders Center is a multidisciplinary specialty group dedicated to providing individualized, compassionate, and comprehensive care to our patients using the latest diagnostic and state-of-the-art treatment options for patients across the entire spectrum of movement disorders. In addition, researchers in this program are conducting outstanding clinical and basic science research in Parkinson\u2019s disease and other movement disorders and then translating our research into advances in treatment to improve the lives of our patients and their families.<\/p>\n

\n

UNC Memory Disorders Program<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The UNC Memory Disorders Program promotes clinical care, education, and research into Alzheimer\u2019s disease and\"ADRC related\u00a0disorders (ADRD). Over 150,000 individuals in North Carolina are currently affected by ADRD, and that number will double over the next couple of decades. The Memory Disorders Clinic serves as the program hub, providing state\u2010of\u2010the\u2010art diagnostic evaluations and treatment, as a venue for training students and physicians, and as a platform for multidisciplinary research.<\/p>\n

\n

UNC Epilepsy Center<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

The UNC Epilepsy Center is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive epilepsy care to current and future North\"NAEC Carolinians and the people of the Mid-Atlantic region. The Center is designated as a Level 4 Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), which is the highest designation representing the most complex forms of diagnostic evaluations and treatment options. Each patient\u2019s care starts with a thorough and extensive clinical evaluation at a clinic or hospital by an epileptologist. UNC epilepsy specialists treat over 2,000 patients annually offering full spectrum of diagnostic tools employing state-of-the-art technology like hybrid simultaneous PET-MRI, Ictal\/Interictal SPECT, and resting state functional MRI.<\/p>\n

\n

UNC Brain Tumor Program<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

The Brain Tumor Program at UNC-Chapel Hill serves patients in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It is one\u00a0of five programs in the country that provides clinical trials testing cellular therapeutics for patients with glioblastoma. We are\"UNC the first program in the region to test implantable focused ultrasound devices to open the blood-brain barrier for targeted drug delivery in brain tumor treatment. The program is distinguished by its use of advanced genomics to personalize treatment plans, ensuring that each patient receives the most effective and innovative therapies tailored to their specific tumor characteristics. Seven NIH-funded researchers are actively investigating novel treatments for brain tumor patients. Additionally, UNC’s strong collaboration among neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and researchers fosters a dynamic environment for rapidly translating the latest scientific discoveries into improved therapeutic options, setting a high standard in treatment outcomes and patient care.<\/p>\n

Matthew Gfeller Center<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

The Matthew Gfeller Center is a leading research center dedicated to studying traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in athletes,\"Matthew service\u00a0members, and first responders. Its interdisciplinary team conducts cutting-edge research on brain health, neuroimaging, and rehabilitation while developing innovative clinical approaches to improve outcomes for those affected by concussion and neurotrauma. The center also leads initiatives like the THRIVE Program, providing specialized care and support for Veterans and first responders with TBI and post-traumatic stress.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
