On April 30th from 10:30-3:30pm, the Age-Based Genomic Screening Team was at Holi Mela! The event was hosted by the Hindu Society of North Carolina<\/a> at the HSNC Temple Lot and there were over 1000 people in attendance. It was wonderful to learn about about the traditions of Holi, see the local vendors, food, and traditional (as well as contemporary) Indian dance performances while tabling. We were also grateful for the chance to distribute our module comics to the kids and families at the event as well as answer people’s questions and concerns about genetic screening and testing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here’s a bit about the event from the organizers:<\/p>\n

“Holi, or the Festival of Colors, is usually celebrated in March to mark the start of spring. The Hindu Society of North Carolina (HSNC) hosted its annual Holi Mela. Organizers say for the Hindu community, Holi represents both the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo in springtime all the flowers come and you know, it\u2019s a harvest time and it\u2019s all different colors of flowers. So that\u2019s what represents the colors,\u201d said Manisha Patel, cultural chair for the group””<\/p>\n
