His work studying regulatory pathways for biofilm formation in the aquatic pathogen <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Vibrio cholerae<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was a formative experience for his interest in genetics. He went on to work in the commercial brewing industry at Olde Hickory Brewery and as a laboratory manager with his alma mater Appalachian State. Most recently he studied gap junction formation and regulation in the nematode <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Caenorhabditis elegans<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> as a member of the Yan Lab at Duke University. Throughout his career he has been interested in and driven by understanding complex pathways and the systems that they regulate.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Randy joined the Berg Lab in February of 2024 as a Senior Biocurator for the ClinGen Resource, part of the UNC Biocuration and Coordination Core. His work will be to support the curation efforts of the Cerebellar Ataxia, Interstitial Lung Disease, and Neurovascular GCEP\u2019s as well as the Anterior Segment Dysgenesis, G6PD, and Hereditary Angioedema VCEP\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Randy Cockerell graduated from Appalachian State University in 2013 earning an MS in Cell and Molecular Biology.
