Cassie Spracklen, postdoctoral fellow in Karen Mohlke’s lab in the UNC Department of Genetics, will be presenting the UNC CVD Epidemiology Seminar on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. This seminar will be held in Rosenau Room 235. The title of her talk is “Understanding Genetic Influences on Cardiometabolic Traits”.

The UNC High Throughput Sequencing Facility will host a seminar titled “Real Time DNA Sequencing Using Oxford Nanopore Technologies ‘Nanopore Sensing’ Platform” on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 9-11am. This seminar will be held in room 322 of MacNider Hall. Speakers will be James Brayer, Associate Director Market Development, Nanopore and Jeremy Wang, Postdoctoral Research Associate, UNC Department of Genetics. The UNC Department of Genetics will host a 2017 Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 honoring the dedicated Faculty, Students, and Staff of the Department of Genetics, the Curriculum in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, and the Curriculum in Genetics & Molecular Biology. The event will have multiple food trucks, a costume contest, activities hosted by the GMB/BCB Student Families, and presentations of the 2017 Magnuson Award recipients. Must register on-site at the event for your meal voucher and your Genetics, BCB, or GMB t-shirt! Shirts available while they last. Non direct-affiliated guests will be able to purchase food direct from the vendors.
