{"id":2732,"date":"2017-06-29T20:55:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T00:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/journal-edited-by-unc-researcher-reaches-record-high-impact-factor\/"},"modified":"2018-02-06T17:09:52","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T22:09:52","slug":"journal-edited-by-unc-researcher-reaches-record-high-impact-factor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/journal-edited-by-unc-researcher-reaches-record-high-impact-factor\/","title":{"rendered":"Journal Edited by UNC Researcher Reaches Record High Impact Factor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- description --><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">ACMG&#8217;s Genetics in Medicine journal receives record high impact factor, is now in top 2.5 percent of all indexed journals.<\/p>\n<div class=\"newsitem\">\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 198px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/481\/2017\/10\/journal-edited-by-unc-researcher-reaches-record-high-impact-factor-image2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Jim Evans, MD, PhD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"Default\">The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) announced that the Thomson Reuters Impact Factor Journal Citation Reports has just increased the impact factor of the ACMG\u2019s peer-reviewed medical genetics and genomics journal, <i>Genetics in Medicine (GIM<\/i>) to 8.229 for 2016, up from 7.710 in 2015. <i>GIM <\/i>is currently ranked 10 of 166 titles in the Genetics &amp; Heredity category and is the top-ranked of genetics journal that has a primarily clinical focus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\">Jim Evans, MD, PhD, Bryson Distinguished Professor of Genetics and Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine, is the journal\u2019s editor-in-chief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\">Impact factor is an objective measure of the world\u2019s leading journals, based on articles\u2019 cited references and is considered a measure of a journal\u2019s overall performance and relevance to its field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\">\u201cWe are very excited that the impact factor has again increased for <i>Genetics in Medicine<\/i>,\u201d said Evans, who is also a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. \u201cThis is a testament to the excellent work by those in the genetics field who have been kind enough to submit their high-quality work to <i>GIM<\/i>, the hard work of the editorial board, and the strength of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. It is also an important reflection of the fact that genetics and genomics are increasingly important in the broader practice of medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"content-area\">\n<div id=\"parent-fieldname-text\" class=\"plain\">\n<p class=\"Default\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-left\" title=\"ACMG's Genetics in Medicine journal cover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/481\/2017\/10\/acmgs-genetics-in-medicine-journal-cover.jpeg\" alt=\"ACMG's Genetics in Medicine journal cover\" \/>ACMG President Louanne Hudgins, MD, said, \u201cDr. Jim Evans and the entire editorial team at <i>Genetics in Medicine <\/i>should be congratulated on this great accomplishment. The steady rise of the impact factor for <i>GIM <\/i>over the past several years reflects the incredible hard work of Dr. Evans, the editorial board and the staff. It also highlights the critical role of medical genetics and genomics in the practice of medicine and the excellent science being performed by the authors, many of whom are members of the ACMG.
