factors for psychiatric illnesses and neurobiological mechanisms by decoding the regulatory relationships of the non-coding genome.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6195 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/genetics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/481\/2018\/08\/HyejungWon-188x250-3.jpg\" alt=\"Hyejung Won\" width=\"188\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As an undergraduate in the Department of Biological Sciences at KAIST (Daejon, Korea), Hyejung was involved in research on the neurobehavioral characterization of\u00a0<i>Git1, Irsp53 and Dgk<\/i>\u00a0knockout mice in the laboratory of Dr. Eunjoon Kim.\u00a0 She pursued her PhD in the same laboratory with a project focused on autistic-like behaviors in mice with\u00a0<i>Shank2<\/i>\u00a0deficiency, completing her degree in 2013.\u00a0 Since 2013, Hyejung has been a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Geschwind at UCLA, where she studied chromosome conformation during human neurogenesis.\u00a0 Dr. Won is the recipient of an NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99\/R00) from NIMH.\u00a0 In addition to her appointment in Genetics, she is also a full member of the UNC Neuroscience Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Genetics is pleased to welcome Dr. Won!<\/p>\n<p>Hyejung is located in 7109A Neuroscience Research Building and can be
