is preferred (e.g., physical therapy, exercise science, athletic training, biomedical engineering, anatomy, etc), but qualified candidates with a bachelor\u2019s degree will be considered for admission.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>A grade point average of 3.0.<\/li>\n<li>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/hmsc\/about\/faculty\/\">HMSC faculty member<\/a> who has agreed, in writing, to accept you as a mentee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Prerequisite classes<\/strong> needed for admission include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Statistics<\/li>\n<li>Human anatomy<\/li>\n<li>Human oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Students interested in our program must contact faculty\u00a0members within the program\u00a0who share their research interests to discuss the possibility of the faculty member(s) mentoring the student. Please be mindful that each faculty member accepts new students each year based on the numbers of students to whom they can provide adequate mentorship\u00a0and\/or\u00a0necessary financial support. Each member of our faculty strives to provide optimal training and time for each student accepted into our program.\u00a0To be admitted to the program, you\u00a0must\u00a0have identified a specific faculty member who agrees\u00a0(in\u00a0writing)\u00a0to accept you as a student.\u00a0 The written notification will be submitted as part of your application and confirmed by the Admissions Committee.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">We encourage all applicants to email, call or visit faculty as a part of the vetting process.\u00a0 If you are not sure who you want to work with, we suggest that you first check the <a id=\"OWA09bffc73-1eb1-6831-62d3-60980f7d083e\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/hmsc\/about\/faculty\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/hmsc\/about\/faculty\/\" data-outlook-id=\"b7ed534e-4cee-4690-97a5-553052328ade\">Faculty page<\/a>. Once you identify which faculty members are conducting research in an area of your interest, contact the faculty. Send some information about your background and area of intended study. Discuss with faculty what research they are conducting and their level of interest in accepting you as a student. If you have agreement from a faculty mentor please identify that person on your application. As you look for mentors please do not send emails to the entire faculty. We expect that this will be a thoughtful process for the student.
