Personal Statement
I am a 2016 graduate of the Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and have worked in Orange County Schools since I graduated in 2016, primarily working with preschool through elementary aged children. I also co-lead the assistive technology team for the county. In addition, I have provided home based services for children and provide consultations for a non-profit in Chapel Hill that serves adults with intellectual disabilities living in group homes.
I am currently serving on the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Association board as the Pediatrics (school-based) co-chair (2019-present). In 2018-2019 I participated in the Emerging Leaders Development Program through the American Occupational Therapy Association. I was awarded the Lara Jane Parker Award for Excellence through the New Voices Foundation in 2018, becoming the first occupational therapist to receive the award.
I am excited to bring my experience working with children and families into my teaching. I am passionate about collaborating with families, caretakers, and other providers who support the children I serve. I have found that children make the most progress when there is a team approach and everyone is working to increase a child’s participation in meaningful occupations. In my spare time I enjoy reading and spending time with my dogs and family!
