When I first started my career I was a traveling therapist which gave me additional exposure to different practice areas I had not had the opportunity to work in as a student. I spent most of my time as a traveling OT in the acute care setting and, after a year and a half of traveling, I decided to pursue a permanent job with WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh. I worked in the inpatient rehab setting with patients who had spinal cord injuries for 6.5 years. After that time, I pursued a supervisor position in acute care at the WakeMed Cary, where I currently work. During my career, I have been selected for the Emerging Leaders program through AOTA in 2012, co-created a nonprofit to increase diversity in OT, created a scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill to increase awareness of OT to under-represented populations, and presented on a national and state level many times.<\/p>\n

How did your education with the Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy benefit you?:<\/h3>\n

UNC-CH taught me to be a change agent. The phrase \u201cchange agent\u201d was commonly used by my professors throughout my time at UNC-CH. I was empowered by that phrase to not only push the boundaries of what I can do for my patients but also to help instill lasting change in the way OT services are delivered to our clients. I feel like the education I received really challenged me to think of myself as more than just an individual who shows up to work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
