Why I chose to do a residency/fellowship program at UNC

One of my favorite parts about completing a pediatric residency at UNC is being a part of a large, public, academic medical center. Providing quality care to children and their families from all backgrounds and from all across the state has been one of the highlights of this program.

I chose UNC’s Pediatric Residency because it goes above and beyond in several categories. Throughout the residency, residents have the opportunity to teach both didactic and laboratory classes within the UNC DPT program. There are several research opportunities residents can become involved in or they are also able to start a project of their own. The LEND fellowship is taught in an interdisciplinary environment through a problem-based learning approach – meaning the resident is learning alongside other professionals throughout the year. Clinical mentors are available, approachable, and offer a breadth of clinical knowledge. This program also incorporates weekly exposure to adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities allowing residents to learn what care for individuals with disabilities looks like throughout their lifespan.

What I like about Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill is a quaint town with veins that run Carolina Blue. It is filled with so many genuine people, instantly making it feel like home. There are tons of places to explore like parks, trails or a variety of coffee shops! Being a part of the Research Triangle has a welcome bonus of a wide food cuisine and many adult sports leagues for things like running, soccer and ultimate frisbee. Chapel Hill is centrally located to many enjoyable opportunities across North Carolina, like beaching and hiking, while also being within driving distance to many other cities along the East Coast.
