{"id":2340,"date":"2018-02-19T13:13:13","date_gmt":"2018-02-19T18:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/radisci\/?page_id=2340"},"modified":"2026-02-02T19:30:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T00:30:37","slug":"admissions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/radisci\/programs\/radiologist-assistant\/admissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Admissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>By Radiologist Assistant Application Process<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For the January 2027 entering class: applications are accepted from April 1, 2026 through December 4, 2026.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Please note that any applications received in December may not be able to complete the application requirements due to holiday campus closures.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Completing applications as soon as possible provides the most assurance for completing the admissions, clinical preceptorship, and matriculation processes.<\/p>\n<p>Once the application period begins, please apply electronically to the Radiologist Assistant Masters in Radiologic Science program, following the instructions as indicated below. This radiology practice must include <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/theabr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Board of Radiology<\/a> (ABR) certified radiologists who are willing to instruct and assess the competence of the RA student working and learning under their supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Those students selected as qualified applicants by academic record and admissions information will be required to complete written and oral interviews. The written and oral interviews cover topics related to the applicant&#8217;s admissions information, radiologic science, health care, and personal goals.<\/p>\n<p>Since UNC offers web-based distance education courses, students are required to be computer literate upon enrollment. Students must also have access to Internet services, including web browsing capabilities and e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>During admissions, applicants are reviewed according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Clarity and quality of applicant data form information<\/li>\n<li>Past academic performance, academic progress and promise<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the field<\/li>\n<li>Supportive references<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Minimum Qualifications for Application<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduate of an accredited medical radiography program<\/li>\n<li>Baccalaureate degree (may apply while completing a baccalaureate degree; completion date must be prior to RA program enrollment date)<\/li>\n<li>Current ARRT Certification in Radiography<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of 3.0 GPA in radiography program and 3.0 GPA in B.S. program<\/li>\n<li>BCLS certification*<\/li>\n<li>Minimum 2 years full-time experience in direct patient care, after passing the ARRT Radiography Exam. Applicants with additional years of practice and\/or diversified experience may be more competitive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. All students\u00a0must acquire ACLS certification prior to participating in any invasive procedures.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Forms and Documentation<\/h3>\n<p>Applications for admission to the UNC-Chapel Hill Radiologist Assistant program should be submitted via the online admission application. All required materials described below should be submitted according to the instructions provided. Your application will not be reviewed until the application fee is received. By submitting an application to UNC-Chapel Hill, consent is granted to university staff to obtain any additional or missing information as needed, including campus safety information.<\/p>\n<p>Suggestions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Save your information before moving on to another page of the application. Application Fee<\/h4>\n<p>A non-refundable $95 application fee is required. Applicants can pay the fee by credit card (Visa\/MasterCard) or mail a check or money order to the address below. For security purposes, the credit card address manually inserted during the final payment process must exactly match the credit card billing address for a successful transaction. Mail-in payments are restricted to a check (in U.S. funds) that contains the pre-printed electronic routing numbers, or an international money-order made payable to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Transcripts<\/h4>\n<p>One unofficial transcript from each university attended must be uploaded within the application. If offered admission, one paper official transcript for each university attended will be required at a later date.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transcripts of all post-secondary education (including community colleges, summer sessions and extension programs) are required. Unofficial transcripts must be complete (not select courses), issued in the original language and be accompanied by certified English translations when applicable. Transfer credit posted on the transcript of other institutions is not accepted in lieu of transcripts from the institution attended. A transcript from each institution is always required.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants should submit transcripts showing their current courses. Current Letters of Recommendation<\/h4>\n<p>The email address of three recommenders will be required within the application for electronic submission and delivery. You are required to submit 2 references from radiologists and one from your current work supervisor. You should solicit recommendations from individuals who are qualified to evaluate your academic and professional achievements and who can address your potential for success in the radiologist assistant program. The online application will prompt you to submit the email addresses for your three recommenders.<\/p>\n<h4>4. Resume<\/h4>\n<p>You will be asked to upload a current resume.<\/p>\n<h4>5. Standardized Test Score<\/h4>\n<p>We do not require graduate entrance exams such as the GRE or the MAT. We do require that you upload and mail (see address below) a copy of your ARRT Exam scores and State License (as applicable) for all current certificates\/licenses.<\/p>\n<h4>6. Campus Safety Information<\/h4>\n<p>Applicants for admission will be asked several questions regarding criminal pleas, charges and convictions, academic suspensions, and military discharges on the application. You will also be asked to submit information for a criminal background check. You must describe violations of law in your home country and in any other country in which you have resided. The term \u201claw\u201d includes codes, legal rules and regulations, and other criminal-type statutes or violations of municipal, local, provincial, state, federal, national, commonwealth, and other governmental jurisdiction. Failure to provide complete, accurate and truthful information will be grounds to deny or withdraw your admission, or to dismiss you after enrollment. The same actions will occur if you fail to notify the Admissions Office promptly in writing of such charges that occur at any time after you submit the application.<\/p>\n<h4>7.
