The article, titled \u201cRadiologic Originals,\u201d features nine pioneers who helped shape the radiologic technology profession.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 135px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Watson.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/888\/2018\/10\/image\" alt=\"Watson.jpg\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Dr. Linda Watson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Watson Named ASHA Fellow<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Linda Watson, Professor, has been named a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The status of Fellow is retained for life and is one of the highest honors ASHA bestows. It recognizes professional or scientific achievement and is given to members who have made outstanding contributions to the profession \u2013 contributions that are significant and would be so regarded within and beyond one\u2019s community or state. For Dr. Watson, these contributions include supervising and mentoring over 250 future clinicians and scholars; conducting and disseminating research, especially in autism, with over $8M in grants, 39 articles, and more than 100 presentations; and serving in varied ASHA leadership roles related to autism. Dr. Watson will be recognized at the ASHA Convention, November 14-16, in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 135px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Renner.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/888\/2018\/10\/image\" alt=\"Renner.jpg\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Joy Renner, Division Director<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Renner Wins National Advising Award<\/h3>\n<p>Joy Renner, Division Director and Associate Professor, has been honored as an Outstanding Faculty Advisor by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Renner, a UNC faculty advisor in natural sciences and mathematics, will be recognized at NACADA\u2019s annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 6-9. NACADA was chartered in 1979 to promote quality academic advising to ensure the educational development of students. Since that time, it has grown to more than 11,000 members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 135px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Thorpe.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/888\/2018\/10\/image\" alt=\"Thorpe.jpg\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Dr. Deborah Thorpe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Thorpe Delivers Keynotes, Receives APTA Award<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Deborah Thorpe, Associate Professor, delivered the Susan Harryman Lectureship keynote address at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 9, 2012, and the keynote address at the annual AI DuPont Hospital for Children Cerebral Palsy Conference in Wilmington, Delaware, on May 2, 2013. The topic for both lectures was \u201cPromotion of Fitness and Physical Activity Across the Life Course for Individuals with Cerebral Palsy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January 2013, Dr. Thorpe received the Anniversary Award from the American Physical Therapy Association, Section on Pediatrics, at the annual Combined Sections Meeting in San Diego. The Anniversary Award is presented to a pediatric physical therapist who has made outstanding, visionary contributions in an area of pediatric physical therapy, including practice, research, mentoring, or leadership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 135px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Williams.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/888\/2018\/10\/image\" alt=\"Williams.jpg\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Dr. Sharon Williams<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Williams Selected for ACCLAIM Program<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Sharon Williams, Associate Professor, has been selected for the second year of UNC\u2019s ACademic Career Leadership Academy in Medicine (ACCLAIM) program. Participants for this program were selected by a steering committee composed of the Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, the Executive Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the COO of UNC Hospitals, and the course leader from the list of nominees submitted by the Deans and Department Chairs.
