{"id":2564,"date":"2012-04-12T19:20:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-12T23:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/man\/"},"modified":"2018-10-29T11:20:23","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T15:20:23","slug":"man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/man\/","title":{"rendered":"AuD Grad\/PhD Student Awarded NIH Fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- description --><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">Dr. Sara Mamo, a 2008 graduate of the AuD program and a current PhD student in the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences, has been awarded an F32 postdoctoral fellowship by the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-section\">\n<figure class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/888\/2018\/10\/man-image2.jpeg\" alt=\"image2\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Dr. Sara Mamo, AuD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Her research, titled \u201cElectrophysiological and Psychophysical Measures of Auditory Temporal Processing,\u201d will be conducted in the lab of Dr. John Grose, Department of Otolaryngology, under his mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>Mamo\u2019s research project will focus on temporal processing of speech and other complex sounds in young and older adults with normal hearing. Many older adults have increased difficulty understanding speech in noisy backgrounds, independently of hearing loss, and age-related deficits in temporal processing have been associated with poorer performance on speech perception measures in older adults.
