They are eligible and encouraged to enroll in SPHS 510: Introduction to Communication Sciences and Disorders.<\/li>\n<li>All other applicants must be enrolled at UNC and have a declared Major to apply for the Minor in Speech and Hearing Sciences. (Students who completed SPHS 583 prior to Spring 2024 may use SPHS 583 in lieu of SPHS 510 to meet SPHS Minor requirements)<\/li>\n<li>Speech Science (SPHS 540) should be taken late in the sequence.<\/li>\n<li>Additional courses are required for graduate study in speech-language pathology and audiology. This knowledge contributes to better acquisition<br \/>\nand synthesis of the underlying processes of speech and hearing science.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Example: CHEM 100 Foundations of Chemistry<br \/>\n<strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Physics: Matter, energy, motion, and force. This knowledge contributes to a better<br \/>\nappreciation of the role that physics plays in everyday experiences, society, and<br \/>\ntechnology.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Example: PHYS 100 How Things Work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social and\/or behavioral sciences coursework<\/strong> provides knowledge in the analysis and<br \/>\ninvestigation of human and animal behavior through controlled and naturalistic observation<br \/>\nand disciplined scientific experimentation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examples: ANTH 101 Humans: An Introduction to Anthropology; PSYC 101<br \/>\nGeneral Psychology; SOCI 112 Social Interaction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Statistics and\/or research methods coursework<\/strong> focuses on learning from data and<br \/>\nfrom measuring, controlling, and communicating uncertainty. This coursework provides the<br \/>\nknowledge essential for controlling the course of scientific and societal advances.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examples: STOR 155 Introduction to Data Models and Inference; EDUC 408<br \/>\nResearch Methods in Human Development; PSYC 210 Statistical Principles of<br \/>\nPsychological Research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the discretion of the graduate program, one course can be used to fulfill two prerequisite<br \/>\ncontent areas in Standard IV-A.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For example, some programs may accept BIOC 107 Introduction to Biochemistry as<br \/>\ncovering both Biology coursework and Chemistry or physics coursework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-1-1\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h3 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-1-1\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-1\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-1-1\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"false\" \n                href=\"#details-1-1\">\n                Standard IV-B            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h3>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-1-1\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>The applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of <strong>basic human communication and <\/strong><strong>swallowing processes<\/strong>\u2014including the appropriate <strong>acoustic, biologic, cultural, developmental,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>genetic, embryologic, linguistic, neurologic, and psychologic bases<\/strong>.
