{"id":6285,"date":"2023-02-07T11:14:55","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T16:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/unc-pa\/?p=6285"},"modified":"2023-02-06T11:21:04","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T16:21:04","slug":"division-of-physician-assistant-studies-celebrates-class-of-2022-at-graduation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/healthsciences\/unc-pa\/2023\/02\/division-of-physician-assistant-studies-celebrates-class-of-2022-at-graduation\/","title":{"rendered":"Division of Physician Assistant Studies Celebrates Class of 2022 at Graduation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Division of Physician Assistant Studies held its annual graduation ceremony on December 9, 2022 and awarded 19 Master of Health Sciences degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The class of 2022 and their guests were welcomed by Chileatha Wynn, Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jonathon Heath, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, served as the guest speaker for the ceremony. He shared three pieces of advice with the group. First, show kindness, empathy and grace in all you do. Second, you can be serious and silly simultaneously \u2013 laughter is often the best medicine and bringing your personality to your patients can help build empathy. Third, never lose your drive to learn \u2013 you grow by pushing yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Devin Dukes, a graduate and PA Program Student Society President, reflected on his time in the program and shared memories of his classmates including the blood drive they hosted, participating in the department talent show and volunteering with SHAC \u2013 the Student Health Action Coalition. \u201cExcelling can sometimes feel impossible, but this program taught us to persevere, try hard, be humble, and be the best version of ourselves,\u201d said Dukes.<\/p>\n<p>Following the speakers, awards were distributed and degrees were awarded. Student and faculty awards included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Honors with Distinction:\u00a0\u00a0Mattie Price, Elise Kidder, Katharine Franz, Audrey Howarth, Stephanie Dawson<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMaking a Difference\u201d Award:\u00a0\u00a0Madison Jacobson<\/li>\n<li>Inaugural Evidence Based Medicine Award:\u00a0 James Forest Griffin<\/li>\n<li>Excellence in Education Award:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kunal Patel, MD<\/li>\n<li>Preceptor of the Year Award:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Aaron Peterson, PA-C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jason Hrdina, Director of Evaluation and Assessment and Associate Professor, gave closing remarks and encouraged the class of 2022 to not be afraid of failure and to always keep learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Division of Physician Assistant Studies held its annual graduation ceremony on December 9, 2022 and awarded 19 Master of Health Sciences degrees.
