If you find yourself sitting in lecture next to someone who is definitely awake and seems pleasantly amused by nearly every facetious, droll or whimsical comment made by the discretely-passionate, coffee-imbued yet frustratingly unhurried creatures on stage and if you begin to find yourself drawn in by this person’s, your neighbor’s, polite, yet genuine giggles and engaging wit, and if you start to feel entertained by and interested in what these well-meaning, kind and intelligent creatures on stage are so gradually saying and if you ultimately leave class feeling more refreshed and cheerful by virtue of your neighbor’s contagious good humor and patience, then my bet is you were sitting next to Holly.

Meet Holly.

Holly is a first year medical student from Baltimore, Maryland (did you know Maryland is named after King Charles’ wife Queen Henrietta Maria?). However, she’s been at UNC for over five years and, therefore, her favorite sports team is obviously “that one that’s better than dook.”

What You Should Know About Holly

Holly is on the HHA supplies team, has mucha experencia with speaking Spanish and her Myers Briggs personality type is The Caregiver (ESFJ). I probably didn’t need to tell you these latter two facts, because when I asked her why she wanted to go on this trip, she basically said the same things in her own words, only better:

“I wanted to spend an extended time in a Latin American country, ultimately to to better connect and communicate with future patients!”

Fun Facts About Holly

  • Holly’s craziest travel experience was when she visited Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and saw the Moai (giant heads) at sunrise (Woah now, have you seen those things?? Even the photos are incredible!)
  • Looking forward to the trip, she is most excited about getting to stay with a local in their home
  • Moms are Holly’s favorite group of people (“They do so much, so well!”)
  • After going to Honduras, she is planning to use the rest of her summer to travel more, visit family and, most importantly as a med student on holiday (if I do say so myself), CHILL.

I will finish with what I believe to have discovered as Holly’s life mantra:

“Encourage, lift and strengthen one another. For the positive energy spread to one will be felt by us all.”
